Fellowship Corner

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PSLawNet serves as a clearinghouse for information and resources on legal and law-related post-graduate fellowships, and the preparation and application process that leads to success. In addition to cataloguing over 300 fellowship postings in our searchable database of public service opportunities (containing attorney positions, internships, law related positions, and non-legal positions as well as fellowships) and in the print Comprehensive Fellowship Guide, this web page contains a number of resources to assist you in your search.

Getting Started

The Fellowships Corner contains everything you need to coordinate a successful fellowship search. Start with the Types of Fellowships page for a quick overview of what's out there.

The Fellowship Resources page contains several helpful fellowship application guides, including "Public Interest Fellowships", prepared by the Yale Law School Career Development Office. In addition to detailing the types of fellowships that exist, this guide describes the ideal timeline for the process and the materials you will need to assemble. You should read this before you start your fellowship search.

Finally, check out the Fellowship Calendar for an overview of deadlines, but always confirm all details of any given opportunity with the posting organization.

Logging in to the Site

If your law school or the law school you graduated from subscribes to PSLawNet, you have unlimited access to search our database for free. To see if your school is a subscriber, click here. You must register before you can access the site. Once you've registered and logged in, you'll be taken to the "Student/Grad Dashboard" where you can search for opportunities or organizations or sign up to receive email alerts when new jobs or fellowships are posted.

Searching for Fellowships in the Database

The database contains postings for attorney positions, internships, law related positions, and non-legal positions in addition to fellowships. To get a complete list of all fellowships available, click on "Search Opportunities" and then click on"FELLOWSHIP-All" in the "Job Type" drop-down menu. You can also search for only legal fellowships, law related fellowships, non-legal fellowships, or project-based fellowship sponsors. Academic Fellowships are found in all of these categories and can be found by designating "Academic" as a practice area.

You can narrow down your search by practice area or location or type keywords into the "Job Description" or "Organization Name" boxes. Many fellowship opportunities are available in multiple cities or countries, so you may also want to try typing "Nationwide", "Worldwide", "Multi-state", and "Multi-country" into the "Job Location City" box or selecting "NA/Other" in the metro area box. Also, note that practice areas are designated by PSLawNet, so you may want to define each practice area broadly during your search in order to get the best results. To get the most accurate information regarding job duties and practice areas, you should contact each organization directly.

Search results are initially sorted by date posted, with most recent date first, but you can also sort by city, state, or metro area. It is important to note that because most fellowship applications generally occur on a yearly basis, unlike regular job postings, many of the fellowship postings have been in our system for several years; therefore, more recently posted fellowships are not necessarily more current than older postings. All fellowship information is confirmed annually, as designated by the "date updated" in the posting title. However, you should ALWAYS verify opportunity information with the organization.

Web Features

In addition to the ability to narrow your search, the online database postings contain links to organization profiles, allowing you to learn more about the organization generally. And because the online database is updated throughout the year, it contains the most current information. In addition, the website is the best source of information for project-based fellowship sponsor opportunities.

In Conclusion

If you prefer print media to online searching, check out The Comprehensive Fellowship Guide, available from the NALP bookstore, or ask your school's career services librarian if they have the most recent edition of the Guide. The Comprehensive Fellowship Guide provides the same information as the online database in a user-friendly print format.

For more information, get in touch with your school's career services office. Many law schools designate a Public Interest Coordinator who can help you through the fellowship search and provide you with more fellowship resources.

Please note that while we make every effort to ensure the accuracy of the information contained on this website, we strongly encourage all users to contact fellowship sponsors/organizations directly to verify fellowship deadlines and other application information.

GOOD LUCK!
