How to Use PSLawNet

PSLawNet is an easy and effective tool for public interest job-seekers, employers, and law school administrators to share information.

JOB SEEKERS

  • Registering as a new user
  • If you are a student or alum of one of our over 190 subscriber schools, you may create a user account on PSLawNet for free.  First, complete the initial sign-up page by providing basic contact information.  You will also have the opportunity to upload a resume.  When you have completed this page and submitted your information, a confirmation email will be sent to the email address that you provide as your PSLawNet username.  Click on the link provided in that email to complete the registration process.  To get to the sign-up page, go here or click the “New User? - Job Seeker” link on the PSLawNet homepage.
  • If you are not affiliated with a subscriber school, you may take out an individual subscription for a small fee by contacting us at pslawnet@nalp.org.
  • For more information on registering and using PSLawNet, please download the PSLawNet User Guide.
  • What can you do as a registered user?
  • Search among thousands of public service job opportunities and employer organization profiles.
  • Flag and store opportunities and profiles for later viewing.
  • Receive email alerts containing newly posted opportunities that match your preselected criteria.
  • Apply directly for jobs via PSLawNet.  Please note that this is a new feature, and employer organizations must choose to accept applications directly through PSLawNet for any given job opportunity.  It will take some time as employer organizations learn of this feature and become accustomed to using it regularly.

EMPLOYERS

Are you a nonprofit, government, or other type of public service organization seeking to raise your profile and advertise job openings among law students and attorneys?  Would you like to do this for free?  You are in the right place.  For information on how to use PSLawNet, please download the Employer User Guide.  Here are the basics:

  • PSLawNet Homepage Employer Section - If you click on the red "Employers" tab on the homepage, you will find helpful information, FAQ's, and announcements that are geared toward employer organizations.
  • Creating an Organizational Profile
    • On the homepage, click on the "New User? - Employers" link.  You will be prompted to provide background information about your organization.  This information will be used to create an organizational profile on the website, visible to law students and attorneys.  You will also be prompted to provide administrative contact information that is not made publicly available; this will include providing a username (email address) and password to access PSLawNet.
    • When you complete the form, a confirmation email will be sent to the email address that you provide as your PSLawNet username.  Click on the link provided in that email message.  At that point, you will be taken to PSLawNet and automatically logged in.
    • NOTE: If you are not sure whether your organization already has a PSLawNet profile (there are over 12,000), please email us or call at 202-296-0076 to double-check.  Creating a duplicate profile will confuse job seekers.
  • Your Personal Homepage and "User Options" Menu - when you log in, you will be taken to a personal homepage.  There are further directions on that page to help you navigate PSLawNet.  The "User Options" menu on the left side of your homepage will be your main navigational tool.
  • Posting Job Opportunities - When logged in to PSLawNet, simply click on "Add New Opportunity" and complete the form.  Be sure to  set the job status to "Active" on the bottom of the form.  This will  cause your posting to  go live on the website after you submit it.
  • New Feature: Receiving Job Applications Directly through PSLawNet!  You may now accept job applications directly through PSLawNet!  At the bottom of the "Add Opportunity" form is an option  to "Allow Online Applications."  If you select yes,  job seekers will be allowed to send application materials directly to you through PSLawNet.  Those job applications will be stored  on your personal homepage for you to review at your convenience.

LAW SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS

Career advisers and staff persons in career development offices at PSLawNet subscriber schools have the same access to PSLawNet’s job opportunities and employer profiles that their students and alumni do.  And through the new version of PSLawNet, multiple staff members may keep separate usernames and passwords, rather than your whole office sharing one username/password.

In addition, you and your colleagues may view and manage the user accounts of your school’s student and alumni registered users.  Finally, you should take advantage of the publicly available career-building resources on PSLawNet's homepage to supplement your direct counseling.  Any questions, contact us at pslawnet@nalp.org or 202-296-0057.
