NALP - the organization
that administers and operates PSLawNet - respects the privacy of
PSLawNet’s subscriber schools, their students, alumni and staff; public service
legal employers or their authorized agents; and other visitors to this website
(collectively, “Users”). To protect online privacy, NALP has implemented the
following policy for the PSLawNet site.
Data collected by NALP on the PSLawNet website is used to provide
better service to Users. It is NALP's policy to collect and store personal
information only if knowingly submitted by users. "Personal
information" includes an individual's name, address, contact numbers,
email addresses, and other individualized data. It is different from
"aggregate data," which includes non-individualized information about
an overall group, as well as users' IP addresses, number of hits per page, etc.
In order to use the
PSLawNet database, users must register (as covered in the Terms of Use). Subscribing law
schools voluntarily provide basic contact, email and address information for
the school and any staff members permitted to access PSLawNet as school
administrators. Students voluntarily provide contact, email, address, law
school, graduation, and password information. Information about employer
organizations may be submitted directly by an organization, contributed by a
subscribing law school, or compiled from review of various media sources. All
information may be edited or deleted directly by Users or at the request of a User
at any time, and is accessed by NALP/PSLawNet and its agents only for purposes
of operating and maintaining the PSLawNet website, and for assisting PSLawNet
Users.
General users (those who do not have password-protected User
accounts) - NALP does not
collect any personal information from Users browsing PSLawNet. Those browsing
PSLawNet’s publicly accessible areas do so anonymously. Only aggregate data,
such as IP addresses and the number of hits per page, are collected; these data
do not provide any personally identifying information and are only used for
internal analysis of website usage and traffic.
Registered Users (those who are approved to access the
password-protected areas of PSLawNet) – To gain access to password-protected pages and features of
PSLawNet after registering, Users are asked to log in using some limited
information such as username and password or member number. These data are
submitted voluntarily. When Users log in, NALP's system will set a cookie, a small
piece of data stored on their computer, in order to provide access to
members-only information. A cookie cannot read other data from Users’ computers
hard disks and is not used to disseminate information about Users over the
Internet or to analyze information that Users have provided. NALP does not
allow third parties to set cookies from the PSLawNet site; cookies set by NALP
are used only to pass information from the User to and among NALP's web
servers. Most web browsers accept cookies automatically, but you can set your
browser options to block cookies if you prefer. If the User declines attachment
of a cookie, they may not have access to the full benefits of the PSLawNet site.
We will not sell, rent or
trade personal information to marketers or information brokers. We do not
disclose any personal information to third parties except as explained below.
Links to other web sites
The PSLawNet website contains links to other websites. NALP/PSLawNet has no control
over and is not responsible for the privacy policies or content of such sites.
Inclusion of links to an outside website, whether in an advertisement or
content area, is not an endorsement of the outside website or a guarantee that
the information it contains is accurate. Your use of such linked sites is
subject to the terms and conditions and privacy policies of the providers of
those sites. We encourage Users to be aware when they leave PSLawNet’s site and
to read the privacy statements of any site that collects personal information.
Security
NALP/PSLawNet has implemented reasonable technical and organizational measures
to protect against the loss, misuse and alteration of information under our
control. These precautions include data encryption, firewall protection, and
restricted server access. However, we cannot guarantee that unauthorized third
parties will never be able to defeat those measures or use your personal
information for improper purposes.
Changes to Privacy Policy
NALP reserves the right to change its privacy policies at any time. Any changes
to the policy will be posted on this page. For members of NALP, this privacy
policy is a supplement to, not a replacement for, any other agreements or terms
provided by NALP to you.
If you have any questions
about this privacy statement, the practices of this site, or your dealings with
NALP, or if you are concerned that NALP has handled information in a manner
that does not comply with this policy, please contact:
